The Astatke Vessel

This one-of-a-kind ceramic wall mask was hand-sculpted from deep red stoneware clay and adorned with natural feathers. This large, ornate piece features intricate carved details, vibrant hand-painted accents, and a richly textured, tactile form inspired by the expressive rhythms of Ethio-jazz.

Part of the Azmari Collection, named after Ethiopia's wandering musician-poets, it celebrates storytelling, ancestral roots, and the enduring connection between people, music, and the earth. This mask is also a homage to Mulatu Astatke, whose pioneering Ethio-jazz compositions inspired its rhythm, colour, and expressive character.
